留学美国MBA硕士拿全额奖学金非常难,最主要的原因是给硕士生的奖学金总数太少了,只要系里有博士生,奖学金基本都给了博士申请人,硕士申请人基本没戏。因此,硕士的全额奖学金比博士难拿多了。
这个不是你背景强弱的问题,而是总数目太少了。哪个牛人,如果申请博士,也许可以拿下哈佛; 但是申请前50其他学校的硕士,也很难拿到全奖。
硕士拿奖学金的三种可能如下:
(1)特殊政策。最典型的,就是stanford,很多院系比如能源工程等不管你什么背景,统统招徕读硕士,有的人自费,有的有全额奖学金。因为人家学校牛,不怕你中途跑了,怕的是你后面的PhD qualify exam过不了。先考过qualify,再谈读博士的事情。
(2)运气好。尽管系里有博士学位,但是你仍然拿到了硕士全奖。这种情况,反正我做了这么多年,只遇到过一次,而且是个中国老师主动给的。
(3)系里没有博士学位,最高学校就是硕士,奖学金也只能给硕士。这种学校有的质量也很不错,但是因为没有博士学位,所以基本上不在排名里出现。背景好的中国人,大多不愿意去这样的学校;背景烂的申请人,人家也很可能不要。不是只要你愿意屈尊,这些学校就肯定热情欢迎,你也得有点斤两才行。还有,有能力给全奖的小学校数目非常少,很多专业根本没有这样的学校可以申请。
当然这里说的MBA全额奖学金,也就是指全免学费,外加每月拿工资。这样的奖学金也是美国特有的形势,总的来说虽然硕士全额奖学金的难度主要还是在于所选择的学校和专业,相对来说美国商科硕士全额奖学金还是相对容易的。
